Greetings all!

I'm currently using ContentBuilder for a software catalog (Vendor, Title, Version etc...) and I am unhappy with two things that I would like to see if Kobalt can offer.

1) I cannot put a list of my records in a module, and 2) it does not have any integration with a user-comments system (and that's VITAL for me).

By the way, the $99 price of the full download pack of Kobalt, actually makes me happier than the free ContentBuilder, because, as a commercial product, you are more motivated to support it and be timely in your responses - and from the reviews I have read, you are very responsive.

So, if I wanted to have a software catalog (not for commercial sales, so no need for images or prices or sales materials, etc), and I wanted a main page showing all the titles (searchable and sortable) that would link to individual articles about each title, and then I wanted to be able to put a module on my front page, showing the newest additions to the catalog, or featured items... would Kobalt be the right product for me?

By the way, I am using an extension from the Joomla page which allows me to put modules in articles (Modules Anywhere), and that's how I am showing modules not just in the normal Joomla template areas... I would want to make sure that any Kobalt modules were compatible with that.

Yes, it is called Records module. Currently the product page lacks some screenshots and details ;-) It is available as seperate purchase or in the "everything" subscription package.

Yes, there are many free options and additional adapaters for Cobalt. See available solutions here...

Should work with any module. Did not test "Records module" specifically, but I don't expect any issue.

BTW, you can download and try the Cobalt FREE version beforehand. Best choice to get a first impression. Even the free version includes so many features to explore!

Thank you for your reply, PepperStreet!

So, I see that the Records Module is only $10 USD, which is great.

To do what I have described (the software catalog), what would I need to purchase (aside from the Records module)?

No problem for Cobalt. See typical listings and pages on the MintJoomal page itself. i.e. Downloads, Depot
Hence the sorting order menu. This menu can include every custom field that was set to be "sortable".

Additionally, there is an advanced search and filter system. (the demo page and gallery gives just a small example. Click the "binoculars" icon)

The advanced search is included in Cobalt list pages! Alternatively you can purchase a Filters module.

Headsup

BTW, what is the initial sorting order of your products? by Name/Title? This is my only complaint about Cobalt and "catalogs": It has no records order number, as you might know it from other content components. I mean the usual item order in backend.

In general I would encourage you to support the project and buy a subscription ;-) (no, I do not belong to the staff) ;-)

If you have very specific needs for your page, you might purchase the separate products. Depends on your needs...:

  • Records module
  • Do you prefer a certain Comment system? (which one?)
  • Do you need a special field type or data entry?

  • Maybe the Advanced template package, which has a nice Adv.Table with many config parameters?

  • Or a template pack from the 3rd party Depot?

If you purchase $99 subsciption this module wil be a free download. As filter module too.
