Oh my goodness!It is started again! The stupitidy of Joomla develpoers. now it will create all sorts of problems. I work locally MySQL 5.7.16 without any issue. And if they change null dates to 1000-10-10 that will be a mess!

it is not because of joomla developers, it is the MySQL strict mode. See here

Depending on the setting, it will allow "0000-00-00"

Yes it is not because of Joomla devs. But they try to add to Joomla that null dates by default will be 1000-10-10. I made my conclusion after looking into GitHub submisions to Joomla code.
