We experience quite often, that records were not properly closed. So a check-out error comes up the next time someone else will edit it.

Suggestion:

Global checkout time parameter (like 30min)

If someone wants to edit a record which was checked out more than 30min ago, it will first automatically (forced) checked-in so that the user can edit it.

I have already planned this in Cobalt 9. When someone try to edit checked-out article with rights to check-in, one sies check-in button. Also in gear button there will be new option to check-in in checked-out article. And special moderator rights to allow articles check-in.

In the meantime I have added cron task wich you can call using curl or wget command.

http://mysite.com/index.php?option=com_cobalt& ;task=cron.checkIn

Once in 30 minutes.
