How to I prevent a user who already advised that they not going to renew their subscription from receiving expiry emails?

Also what effect does unplising a user's subscription have?

You can set how often expiry alert is sent here

In this case it is 10 and 5 days before.

I understand how to set up expiry alert emails. If someone has already advised that they do not intend to renew at the end of the current period, his there a way to stop them getting the expiry alert?

My other question is what effect does unpublisng a user's subscription have?

There is no way individualy stop expire alerts. i think the only solution here is to 1. let customer agree terms before subscribe where you mention expiration alerts and then create text in such a way, to give minimum disturbance.

It is like turn it off. User do not have access to restricted content anymore. Although he continue to see in subscription history.
