я не понимаю, что я настроил не так

т.е. разрешение на выбор категории есть, но

просто выбор категории, по типу select field

что нужно изменить?

This is the style "auto-complete". It can have different styles:

Goto your "Type" -> General Parameters -> Templates -> Submission Form (click edit button)

Select "default". Right after change, hit SAVE button once!

cob_template_submission_cat_selection

Then you can click the edit button, which offers some further configuration for "select" style:

cob_template_submission_cat_selection_2

click SAVE & CLOSE.

Once again, click SAVE & CLOSE to leave template edit window.
