I pose a question rather report a bug at this stage:

I am setting section sort orders and seem to have hit a problem.

If I set Section Sort to be 'Last Modified First' (as per screen shot) the actual sort order seems to be created date not modified date

can somebody please enlighten my misunderstanding, or otherwise confirm its a bug.

I have tested and it works locally. Try to save section once more and login-logout to update session.

yea its fine, no problem. Its just my brain that sometimes doesnt work!

I was changing sort order in backend and couldnt understand why it didnt make any difference at front - of course I had session sort order set.

I suppose perhaps something to take from the lesson is that it might a good idea to let the sort order dropdown display the current session sort order, rather than always just displaying 'Sort By'.

At least it would save me any more confusion!

+1 Actually not a bad idea!

Maybe that is possible with a markup-template modification and a new menu style:

e.g. Select2 has this functionality, see "placeholder" until value is selected.

Or change the text constant in markup template parameters "Sort by (heads-up: stored per session!)" ;-)
