Category module has a specific stracture. In my template I have Module Class Suffix which is not working. I believe this is because it cannot overrite your module structure.

Is there another way to create main menu module with categories?

It has nothing to do with module structure. Suffix is added by Joomla core not by module.

Please make sure your source HTML has this suffix on this module.

In general, i like the template features and possible customizations in Cobalt. Though, there are currently some issues with C8 Category module layouts. Hopefully they will be fixed shortly. AFAIK, module class suffix should work as expected.

Alternative

If you can´t wait and need something visual appealing, working right out-of-the-box... you should have a look on this commercial 3rd-party product. FYI, it is made with Dojo Script library. But this might change to jQuery in the future.
