High I am currently Testing out the Upload Field. Every other time I try to upload a file it gets stuck at different %. I need it to be more reliable Because I plan on hosting files on this site. Is this just a bug or is there certain settings in my PHP I need to enable to ensure successful downloads?

I just updated the field from 1.0 to 1.4. Now no uploads even start.

Make sure you have also the latest Cobalt version installed, since some of the upload "logic" comes with the Cobalt installation.

Check in your Cobalt configuration if your upload folder is set and choose the folder format. If you intend to upload a lot of files i would suggest to choose "YYYY-MM-DD" for better maintenance.

The next thing to look into is the uploads folder. Double check if permissions are properly set.

Here a sample of a field configuration for pdf files:

We using this field to upload more than 1000 documents a day.

Try also Ctrl+F5 to reload all JS scripts. That may be because of browser cache. Anyway if you give me a link (and login name if I heed to tests it) I'll check it and say what is the problem.

Oh yeah and also...

  1. Image cover make it image field.

I would use that field but I want the cover images to be uploaded by the user and Gallery is the only field that does this.

No. Image field also does it. User can upload in to image manager.

A 200MB file make it all the way to 58% but that's about it.

It should upload. I suspect your server. Because even right now it is very slow. I could hardly upload 1Mb file there.

I don't see this option when I publish this field. It only allows me to select from a directory of image, not upload.

@Ken Webber

I don't see this option when I publish this field. It only allows me to select from a directory of image, not upload.

Use the first parameter ... Unfortunately the translation does not show in the latest installation ..

Thanks that got it, I set the INITDIRECTORY and DEFAULTPATH to a dedicated folder but ever time I try to select and image it shows my Images folder instead. Is there anyway to get around this?

The image field which comes with the cobalt installation is not the latest. I downloaded the Version 1.4 from the website and installed it again. Maybe the installer for the Cobalt 7.8533 needs to be updated.

After installing i could see the field description.

The initial path has only an impact on the "Directory" mode and will define what files you can choose.

Using the Imagemanager, you will always start at the "images" directory, except you change the path in Joomla backend -> Media Manager -> Options to another path.

You should be aware of the settings (in options) as well .. Upload size limit, filetype etc.

If you activate the flash uploader in the Media Manager settings, then you can upload several files at once.

I would only use the image field (if you dont have the gallery) for the resize and thumbnail creation. Otherwise the better choice would be the upload field, because of the output template support.

Right. in template you may show content as image. The only think upload do not have resize options.

Yes I been playing around with the Images Field and it's just not what I want for this field. Gallery was giving me better results. I just need it for people to upload there Cover Art and there's enough perimeters to get this with the gallery.

There is enough. Just restrict to add only one image.

Sorry to post more here on a slighty more Off Topic question but I tried to make a new Topic and it kept saying "Nothing entered into text box", anyway

I have installed all the current version of Cobalt and extensions on a new site. I am trying to upload Images using Gallery but it never uploads them. If I use HTML uploader, nothing moves, if I use flash it says 100% complete for each image, but after hitting save they never uploaded.

I used what I learned from this post and others but can't seem to get it to work. After getting frustrated I uninstalled Cobalt and all extensions completely and reinstalled them, first I installed pkg_cobalt.v.7.8799, Then Mint - Media pack - v. 1.1 then IP to country database then all the other fields.

Got everything set up again only to experience the same thing. I don't know if it's a bug in the new Cobalt or just something I missed but I am lost now.

Any suggestions?

I tested again after seeing your image and it just doesnt want to upload my images. So I wanted to rule out that my PC has some filewall interference so I did a Tracroute to the site and it looked good.

So I thought the images I was trying maybe there is something the uploader doesnt like about there Aspec Ration or something. So I went into a folder with a bunch of different shaped files, only 1 image uploaded ok.

It could still be something on my end but just to be sure would you mind trying to upload this image from your end? (See Attachment)

I am almost positive now its an Aspect Ratio problem now. Files with a Portrait Aspect Ratio upload fine but if its square or Landscape like it wont upload.

We find a problem, our uploader used function "exif_read_data", this function read metadata from image file. How can I see your attached image is a screenshot or something like that, and this image has bad metadata code, and this function rised warning, that why our ajax code can not finished. We fixed it in cobalt on next release. You can fixed it by editing file components/com_cobalt/controllers/files.php line 400. Replace this "exif_read_data" on this "@exif_read_data"

Oh man, I never even thought of such things, I use Adobe Fireworks to edit my images, I didnt think they where adding such Meta Data to my images. The fix worked, thanks for all your help. =)
