I have been asked to design a database for the use of landloeds and rental agencies. In the DB will be details of tenants - name, past address & phone numbers, comments, payment history/ranking, etc.

I need a simple to complete front end form for the site owner to enter these details, then a search facility so that subscribers can search the database when they're interviewing potential tenants to see if they're in the database and, if so, what their history is like.

I have never used Cobalt before, but I have had some exposure to Sobi2 and Pro, and K2. Hated them all! :-) Am I going to get bogged down trying to do this myself with Cobalt?

Hated them all! :-)

I am sure you will hate Cobalt as well. But it will be your favorite hate. You will hate with all your hart, so sincerely :)

But there will be a day in your live, when your hate turn into love with same power.

On first sight, you might be overwhelmed by the amount of parameters, customization options. But you have to give it a try and chance!
For sure, everything is personal preference and taste, and you might love or hate it... or even both! But don't we have the same experience with Joomla itself ;)

I would suggest to...

  • login into the demo site's admin area... see how gallery, downloads or forum is constructed.
  • have a look at Cobalt documentation and Quickstart.
  • Get Cobalt FREE package, media pack and maybe "Download pack". Which is quite simple and easy to understand.

Good luck and have fun!
