Please make sure that Filter mode is set though all section. Otherwise category filters may not work. You cannot search in current category and filter by other categories.

I enabled the category filter but the checkboxes layout is a bit messy, I don't see any parameter for number of columns and so on... do I have to edit the template directly?

The copy is exactly way. You have to open copied section with URL parameter &newkey=1

I got back to this as I’m now using it again and when I use the group filter it shows all posts from that specific group (as you explained), but is there a way to filter out the topics i.e. the OP should be from the group geometry dash. I know it’s possible using Data Explorer but again it would be helpful.

This just sets the style of filtering, not the filtering itself, you can easy set the needed checkboxes afterwards just like in Agario game with the skins selection, it's similar.
