I cannot find a way to edit EVENTs via FrontEnd in the Calendar App. I think I tweaked the right settings. I also installed the Forum App to see how it is managed. The settings permit editing, but when I select EDIT on the front end, a new entry is created. The Original text appears in the editor box for about half a second, but then it disappears, and hitting REPLY creates a new entry.
