I would better look to online services rather than Joomla extension.

Somethign like http://pdfmyurl.com/ but with a simple API support. Then you simple add pdf button in template to article URL and add &tmpl=component to that URL.

BTW, it might be useful to add "rel=nofollow" tags to the links to avoid duplicated content in search engines. Not sure if this is an issue with the external service URL, but maybe a good advice to not index those links anyway.

Since it is external link I do тещ think there will be any duplicate content. But nofollow still good idea.
