Yes and no.

This is part of the strategy. First we do not want to be behind like we have always been and what to be in the first row. Not only we want to be there we want our customers to be there as well.

Second it is strategy. They move may looks strange now but think of the nearest future. In 3-4 month Joomla 3.0 will be almost like Joomla 2.5 widely used. It took us almost 9 month to update Cobalt 7 to Cobalt 8. Now conclusion. If Cobalt 8 would be only Joomla 2.5 then it would create another gap in 12 month before we release Cobalt 9. It is 9 month of development and 3 month before we can start to make Cobalt 8 stable. By that time everyone will be already screaming for Joomla 3.0 and tell that we are too late. So we think it is better to be there earlier than late.

And by the way we still have amazing Cobalt 7 for Joomla 2.5 which is also fully fledged solution.

No!

BTW, the first 3.x release you may rely on is 3.5! And that is end of year 2013.

I am sure many who already rely on Joomla 3.0 will disagree with you on this point.:)

In fact it can have problem for people who use some extension like SH404SEF, ect which have not ETA about joomla 3.0 release

in fact i understand sergey's (good on long run) strategy and i understand the maik's disappointment because some extensions are joomla 2.5 / 3 compatible
