you cannot change destination. It deirects user to where it say. To page where user may become a member now.

Yes, I understand.

My preference though is for users to be given more information on another page (specific marketing material) and then get offered the links to become a member.

You can create template override for plans list page. Place there you material and button GO. When button is pressed material is hidden and plans that was hidden before become visible.
