As already mentioned in older topics and in this CB + Cobalt topic... I love the idea to use Cobalt fields and template features for a really advanced profile page. You may also think of a personal bio or company detail page.

I am aware of the fact, that Cobalt is not a Community extension. But it is in fact a very powerful and versatile content/page construction tool. Which allows to present information of all kind/media. The best thing... the freedom of design and appearance... and the advanced search!

Almost there...

If there is no Community extension like CB or JS, the username links always to the Cobalt "homepage". That is actually a list. It is not possible to link/re-direct to a full article. The only possible customization is title and message/greeting text.

Questions & Possibilities

  • Extend and utilize existing Cobalt user homepage?
  • or link to a special record/section as Cobalt community-integration?

Ideas & thoughts

A) IMHO, it would be useful to link to a certain article (maybe the first article?) of the user in a specific section. I assume, the user would have only 1 article in the respective "profiles" section. How to do this? A redirect system plugin? An option in global config community integration?

B) An optional Cobalt homepage layout? How to get the homepage menu PLUS a certain article full view underneath? Can it be a parameter in markup template? i.e. "show first article of a certain section"? Custom markup template WITHOUT list is an issue... because there is only one markup template per section. This would remove the usual list view and search capabilities.

C) Workaround for B) ... Use Cobalt homepage view. Show everything in article INTRO, and use a custom LIST layout for the homepage?! How to select/change the template for the homepage? Benefit. I would also get the homepage menu bar.

All nonsense?!

Any thoughts are appreciated ;-)

Maybe you remember my old topic/request about creating a user field.

This field would be a modified relate field. --> It can link records to joomla users.

I just can not find the discussion about it anymore. Most probably it was still in the old Might Extensions board.

As a real world case:

Moderators will assign records to users.

In my particular case it would link documents to joomla users.

I think best way is to create profile page is create article in section. For instance.

In global Cobalt parameters you select what section is going to be profile section and if you want it to be required. Then until user submit article to that section he cannot continue with the site after login. Thus we ensure there is article per user.

In this article template we may add list of other articles from other sections.

And if this parameter is set in Cobalt config, profile link will be to that article.

Something like this.

thank you, now i remenber, nice feature, Jacques had a great idea too "when filling the field, a drop-down would appear, with tabs for friends, maybe a tab for authors in the same section/category, a search inputbox and maybe a filter with the same Registration fields as set for Touch userlists"

Yes, similar to my rough idea... something like an extra option for "community integration". Where the actual integration method is Cobalt itself ;-)

Weird ideas to show more data than homepage title & message

Apart from integration in Global Configuration... more weird ideas how to link and use a Cobalt profile article inside current Cobalt user homepage:

  • A) load a Records module, article author is = viewed homepage owner

  • B) "ReadAlso" field, which relates profile article from a certain profile section. (just as reference link)

  • C) "Relate" like Parent/Child fields. But use full view template for selected profile article. In other words, Embed another record.
